I did a negative paraphrase of 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 and got interesting results:
Love is not immediate, love is not selfish. It is contented, unpretentious and humble. It yields to others, it is selfless, it is merciful, and it forgives all records of wrongs. Love delights in good deeds, but does not rejoice in falsehood. It does not say no to carrying another’s burdens, does not reject truth, does not think pessimistically, nor gives up easily.
Love goes on forever.
“Charity” has a closer meaning to the original, than the modern connotation of “love.”
Antonyms for patient can also include impulsive, irritated or eager.
Original translation was derived from the NRSV.
